BE's Green Giant makes the big time
September 18, 2010 - Chuck Hunt
A picture of the Green Giant statue in Blue Earth is gracing a national website this week. And I took the photo. Last summer, during the Relay for Life event at the Faribault County Fairgrounds, the participants went over to the Green Giant statue for a photograph. It included cancer survivors, and relay walkers. They walked over, or were bussed over. I was tapped to take the shot. It involved my climbing up a ladder that was placed in the back of Rich Belau's pickup truck. It was a might precarious, to say the least. The picture anchored our photo display of the Relay for Life, on Page 2 that week. The American Cancer Society community relations director for the Midwest , Annie Rohde, was at the Faribault County event. She asked me for a copy of the picture. I emailed it to her. Now, Ms. Rohde has emailed back to me to inform me the Green Giant now graces the front page of their website. You can check it out at relayforlife.org. I am not sure the whole picture is there, with the survivors all in the foreground. But the Jolly Green Guy is there in all his glory, complete with wearing his Relay for Life T-shirt. There is a caption which says the picture was taken in Faribault County, Minnesota. I guess a little national recognition is always good.
