Busy day in Faribault County

June 26, 2012 - Chuck Hunt
Faribault County was a very busy place last Saturday, June 23. Well, you maybe you think it always is. Or perhaps you feel it is dull as heck here, and nothing ever happens. But, on Saturday, things were hopping. In Kiester, it was Kiester Fun Days. And, despite a bit of rain, they held all the activities as planned. It rained through the whole parade and participants and watchers alike used a lot of umbrellas to get through it. The volleyball players in the park never paused a bit despite the rain, playing hard right through it. A lot of people just walked around wet, including yours truly, the Faribault County Register photographer. Outside Kiester there was a fun horse show at the Farming of Yesteryear site. In Bricelyn, there was an antique tractor ride taking a break in the downtown park. They were out of Rake, Iowa and there were over 100 tractors taking part in the ride. They too, had survived the rain. As had a motorcycle benefit ride that started and ended the day in Minnesota Lake. Back in Blue Earth there were a lot of baseball games going on, as well as a wedding and a funeral. The funeral was for Loren Lein, of course, well known former Blue Earth mayor and Faribault County Commissioner. Saturday afternoon and evening there was the first ever Craft Brew Fest in Winnebago. There was a sold out crowd in W’bago, all having a very good time. That is just one day in this busy county. If you don’t think there is much going on during these crazy, lazy days of summer, you better get off the couch and look around. Because there is. Check out the Best of Summer magazine, which came as part of the Register a few weeks ago. Extra copies are available at the Register office, or you can read it online on this web site.
