Looking like the Minnesota Vikings

February 3, 2015 - Chuck Hunt
I have to say, I am pretty darn happy my beloved (or is it my hated?) Minnesota Vikings did not make it into the playoffs or into the Super Bowl. I know, I know. It is supposed to be every football fan’s dream to have his (or her’s) team make it to the playoffs, and from there, to the big dance. But, folks. I have been there. Well, not at the Super Bowl per se. But I have watched every one of them, including the four that the Vikes were in. And, it was a hard thing to do. They lost. Every one of them. They played badly, or at least not like they were capable of playing – or had played like all season. That was when I was a young man and I could darn near not stand it, then. Now that I am old, I am not so sure my ticker would take it. You see, I am sure that the Vikings would have done something just like the Green Bay Packers did in the NFC championship game. The Vikes would have built up a nice lead only to allow the other team to steal the game right at the very end. In fact, the Packers looked like the Vikings when they squandered away that game. I?almost thought I saw some purple out there on the field. I actually felt sorry for those obnoxious Packer fans. After all, for most of them, the Green Bay Packers are the only thrill in their cheese-eating, beer-drinking lives. (No offense to all my Packer fan relatives! Or Tom Warmka!) The only thing worse than looking like the Packers did, would be if the Vikings would have somehow gotten to the Super Bowl and then did what the Seattle Seahawks did. OMG! Again, the Seahawks looked like they took a page out of the Vikings playbook, as they literally gave away the game to those darn cocky Patriots. Exactly like what our beloved Vikes would have done. If you have been a Vikings fan for as long as I have, you know what I am talking about. And, I was a season ticket holder for 12 years, and those years included the Les Steckel season! I keep telling my non-football-fan wife how lucky she is not being a Vikes fan. Because, it ain’t easy. It’s hard, darn hard, being a fan of those Vikequeens. But now, fans from Green Bay and Seattle are starting to feel a little of the same pain we have felt for years here in Minnesota. Maybe even worse. I think even a lot worse.
