Correction: St Croix Bridge story

December 6, 2013
Associated Press

STILLWATER, Minn. (AP) — In a story Dec. 5 about construction of a bridge over the St. Croix River connecting Minnesota and Wisconsin, The Associated Press reported erroneously that the span would cost $629 million. It will cost $369.3 million.

A corrected version of the story is below:

New St. Croix bridge superstructure work to begin

Work to begin soon on superstructure of new St. Croix bridge linking Minn., Wis.

STILLWATER, Minn. (AP) — Work begins soon on the superstructure of the new four-lane highway bridge over the St. Croix River connecting Minnesota and Wisconsin.

The Minnesota and Wisconsin departments of transportation this week approved a $332.5 million contract with the Lunda/Ames Joint Venture to build the St. Croix Crossing bridge superstructure.

Lunda/Ames plans to start pile-driving in mid-December at seven pier locations on the Minnesota side. The piers will support the Highway 36 approach bridge and ramp bridges that connect to the main river crossing.

Pile-driving at that location will continue through May 2014. Bridge construction will continue through 2016.

The $369.3 million span is scheduled to open in 2016. The lift bridge will become part of a hiking and biking trail. The total project is estimated at $580 million to $676 million.
