After losing their season opener to the Waseca Bluejays, the Blue Earth Area Buccaneer boys basketball team bounced back with a decisive victory in their second game of the season.
The Bucs traveled to New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva on Tuesday, Dec. 18, and came home with a 67-44 victory, despite being without one starter, Isaac Darrington, who is out with an injury.
BEA led NRHEG 28-22 in the first half, then dominated the Panthers 39-22 in the second half.
Luke Monson had a standout game for the Buccaneers, with a double-double. He came in with 34 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the game.
Monson was 13 of 22 from two-point land for 26 points, sank 2 of 5 from beyond the three-point arc for six more, and put in 2 of 4 free throws to tally the 34 points. He also had six blocked shots in the game.
Brandyn Olson added 11 points for the Buccaneers, with four assists, four rebounds and two blocked shots.
Steven Plocker just missed double figures in the scoring column with nine and had seven rebounds.
In total, the Bucs out-rebounded the Panthers 40 to 17.
BEA was 26 of 59 shooting from the floor, for 44 percent, and made 12 of 19 free throws for a 63 percent rate.
NRHEG was 16 of 43 from the floor, including five three-pointers, for a 37 percent shooting proficiency, and made 7 of 10 free throws for 70 percent.
