The Buc wrestling team went 1-1 at a tri-angular held Tuesday in New Prague.

BEA?gave the host Trojans, who are ranked No. 5 in Class AA, a scare.

Both teams won seven matches, but New Prague was able to hang on for a 35-34 win.

In the second dual meet, the Bucs easily defeated Le Sueur/Henderson, 56-12.

"Overall, I thought we wrestled real well. We had some chances against New Prague to pull out a win," says head coach Randy Wirtjes.

Against New Prague, BEA jumped out to a 6-0 lead when Adam Legred pinned his opponent at 106 pounds in 1:35.

The Trojans went ahead 11-6 with a tech fall and a pin before 126-pound Alex Huber put his opponent's shoulders to the mat to give his team a 12-11 advantage.

New Prague won four of the next five matches to build a 29-20 lead.

BEA's only victory came at 145 pounds when Jesse Alleven earned a 9-6 decision.

The Bucs mounted a comeback in the upper weights with the team's four ranked wrestlers posting wins.

At 170 pounds, Class A No. 8-rated Carter Hanson registered a tech fall in 4:55 and Gus Phillips, ranked No. 9 at 160, followed with a 14-4 major decision at 182 pounds.

No. 7-ranked Kysten Zierke needed just 1:36 to pin his 195-pound opponent to put the Bucs ahead, 30-29.

But, New Prague answered with a pin at 220 to take a five-point lead.

At heavyweight, 10th rated Martin Granados blanked his opponent 8-0 for a major decision, but it wasn't enough to pull out a team victory.

Against the Giants, the Bucs trailed 9-0 after the first two matches.

BEA's Camden Bowers notched a 13-9 decision win at 120 pounds, followed by a Huber pin at 126 to tie the score.

The Bucs went ahead on a forfeit and never trailed again.

The highlight match may have been at 160 pounds, pitting BEA's David Franta against Class A No. 2-rated Chris Pfarr.

Franta dropped a close 3-0 decision.
