The Blue Earth Area Police Department is investigating a burglary and vehicle theft that took place on Dec. 25th or 26th.
The Faribault County Sheriff's Department responded to a call at 5:30 a.m. on Dec. 26 a suspicious vehicle was found parked along County Road 5.
It was found that the vehicle was a van stolen from Electric Service Company in Blue Earth. Everything in the van had been removed and the vehicle was abandoned.
Later that morning, at 8 a.m., Electric Service Company employees reported to the Blue Earth Police Department that their building had been broken into.
Another van was missing along with thousands of dollars worth of electric wire.
The second stolen van, a white 2005 Chevrolet Express work van, was also recovered by the Faribault County Sheriff's office.
It was located on a minimum maintenance road in the northwest corner of the county, off County Road 8.
The total inventory for the missing items is still unknown, but it is expected that the value of the items taken totaled more than $20,000, according to Blue Earth Police Chief Tom Fletcher.
"Electric Service employees are still taking inventory to determine what all is missing," Fletcher says. "There are electricians tools and wiring and it is hard to determine how much wire."
If anyone has any information on the break-in or stolen material, they are asked to call the Blue Earth Police Department at (507) 526-5959.
