Buc gymnasts fall to Bluejays

The Blue Earth Area gymnastics team traveled to Waseca last Tuesday to face the Bluejays.

"This meet was a makeup meet," co-head coach Merissa Lore explains. "It was supposed to be held on Jan. 16 but was canceled due to weather." Waseca was the overall winner with a team total of 134.95. BEA finished with a total score of 110.6.

The Bluejay gymnasts found their strong point to be on the vault with a team score of 34.875. They also scored 31.55 on bars, 33.775 on beam and 34.75 on floor.

The Buccaneers, while scoring lower than their opponents in the event, also scored highest as a team on the vault with a score of 32.

Their other team scores include 25.175 on bars, 23.225 on beam and 30.2 on floor.

Buc gymnast Haley Resutek has been placing individually in the past several meets and the meet against Waseca was no different.

She landed in third place on the vault with an average score of 8.75.

Waseca gymnasts took the first and second place in that category. Caleigh Dennis was first with an 8.9 and Maddy Swain took second with an 8.875.

Resutek came in fourth place with her floor routine also. She had an average score of 8.525.

Bluejay gymnasts took the top three spots. Maddy Swain placed first with a 9.275, Marina Chen was second with 8.675 and Hannah Petry third with 8.625.

Maroon and gold gymnast Resutek rounded out the night by taking fourth place in the all around category.

Her scores of 8.75 on the vault, 7.525 on bars, 6.5 on beam and 8.525 on floor added up to her all around score of 31.3.

Waseca took the top three places in the all around competition. Maddy Swain was first with 34.575, Marina Chen was second with 33.975 and Caleigh Dennia was third with 33.

The JV squads also competed in Waseca last Tuesday.

The Bluejays won the JV?portion with a total score of 114.15. But, the Buc's Justina Gaydon placed third in the all around category with 20.05.

Waseca's Michaela Groll and Cecila McNair took the top two positions in the all around. Groll was first with 29.95 and McNair was second with 26.5.

The maroon and gold gymnasts held a meet at home on Friday against St. Peter, which was held after the Register deadline. Results from that meet will be in the next issue.
