Franta, Stewart are All-SCC

By Staff | Jun 29, 2014

Two members of the Blue Earth Area baseball team were selected for South Central Conference honors.

Senior David Franta was named All-Conference and fellow senior Alex Stewart received Honorable Mention.

David Franta

The senior shortstop was a tremendous leader for the Bucs’ squad this year, according to coach Todd Schmidtke.

“David is a great competitor and always wants to perform well,” Schmidtke says. “We will definitely miss his leadership roles next year.”

Franta finished the year with a .391 batting average. He hit .400 within the SCC, according to Schmidtke.

Franta had five doubles, one triple, one home run and stole 10 bases on the year.

“I just can’t say enough about what David meant to our team,” Schmidtke adds. “In my opinion, I think he was the most well rounded shortstop in the conference.”

Alex Stewart

The senior outfielder had a stellar year with the Buccaneers.

“Alex is a great kid,” Schmidtke says. “He always gave it his all and was always a bright spot in our lineup.”

Stewart finished the year with a .345 batting average and hit .380 within the SCC, according to Schmidtke.

He had two doubles, six stolen bases and contributed 11 RBI on the year for the maroon and gold.

The Bucs finished the year with an 8-12 record and will be losing seven seniors from the squad.

“It will be difficult, like it always is, to replace such great kids and athletes,” Schmidtke explains. “Quinn Huisman was third on the team behind Franta and Stewart with a .368 batting average. I think he should have been recognized as well. We will miss everyone who graduates.”
