Elmore Mary Coy, age 87, of Elmore, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, at United Hospital in Blue Earth.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elmore, the Rev. Joel Lintner officiated. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery, Elmore.
Mary was born Oct. 20, 1927, in Wells, the daughter of Edward and Rose (Salzmann) Barnick. She was raised in Wells where she attended country schools. She was united in marriage to Lester Lee Coy on Oct. 28, 1947 in Wells. The couple came to the Blue Earth area in 1951 and farmed near Delavan before moving to Elmore in 1956. They continued to farm near Elmore where Mary kept busy raising six children, cooking wonderful meals, and helping on the farm with gathering eggs, driving grain trucks and tractors, but mostly enjoying time spent on her John Deere lawnmower. She was a wonderful cook and baker. “Grandma Mary” made it her mission to always have “treats”. Many times she delivered them to the repair shops or to friends. “The coffee pot is always on,” “treat yourself,” or “go for it” were some of her favorite sayings. She loved her family and Les who she was proudly married to for 67 years. She had a personal relationship with the Lord and looked forward to the beautiful gardens in heaven. She was involved in the Kossuth County, Iowa Cow Belle Association, a St. Luke’s volunteer, and Ladies Aide member at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elmore. She very much enjoyed her annual flower and vegetable gardens through the years.
Mary is survived by her husband, Lester Coy, of Blue Earth; daughters, Barbara (Merrill) Ludwig, of Windsor, Colo., Susan (Terry) Kiewiet, of Buffalo Center, Iowa, Patricia (Loren) Skilbred, of Wolcotville, Ind., Kelly (Joel) Hulke, of Mankato; son, Darrin (Peggy) Coy, of Clifton Park, N.Y.; daughter-in-law, Diane Coy, of Elmore; sister, Donna Steinhauer, of Wells; brother, Harold (Dorothy) Barnick, of Lake Crystal; 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
