Ruth Lindholm, 86

Feb 2, 2015

Fergus Falls Ruth Lindholm, age 86, of Fergus Falls, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, at Woodland Lodge, Fergus Falls.

Ruth Ann Rhoads was born in Mitchell, S.D. on Nov. 28, 1928, to George A. Rhoads and Anna Lou Redding Rhoads.

As a young child Ruth was a gifted pianist, studying classical music and playing for her father’s church services and area camp meeting revivals. When her high school lost its music teacher, she conducted the band. She continued to play the piano beautifully throughout her life and encouraged others to take joy in music.

Ruth graduated from Wilmot, S.D., High School, and taught country school for a year to save money for Asbury College in Wilmore, Ky, which she attended for one year.

In 1948 she married Paul Lindholm. She made her wedding dress and those of her seven bridesmaids and two flower girls. The couple farmed for six years. Following education and on the job training, Paul held CEO positions at Blue Earth State Bank of Blue Earth, Farmers and Merchants State Bank in Clarkfield, and Security State Bank of Fergus Falls. Ruth was his untiring partner and supporter.

Known for her gracious hospitality, cooking, and fabric arts, she loved making beautiful things and a beautiful home. Wearing elegant clothes and hats delighted her. She was always looking for something “a little different.”

Early in life Ruth was touched by the love of God and His offer of forgiveness in Christ. She responded by opening her heart’s door to Jesus and was grateful for God’s grace all her life. Active in Christian Women’s Club for many years, she traveled the Midwest to speak and teach.

Ruth embraced people of all ages and walks of life with the same interest and enthusiasm. Neighbor kids called her “Woofie.” She always offered emotional support, homemade cookies and a fresh pot of coffee often more. “Have you had enough to eat?” she asked, even during her last hospital stay. She loved family and friends, and they loved her.

Survivors include her husband, Paul; children, Rebecca, Steve (Mary Jane), John (Patricia), Matthew (Meg); brother Charles (Annie Ruth) Rhoads; grandchildren Sarah, Melissa (Alex), Erik (Stephanie), Sophia, Nicholas, Gabe, Lucia; and many dear relatives and friends.

Services were held Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015 at Bethel Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls. Clergy were Rev. David Foss and Rev. John Lindholm. Interment was in Swedish Mission Cemetery on the Lindholm farm nine miles north of Ortonville in Prior Township overlooking Big Stone Lake.

Arrangements provided by Olson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls. Memorials preferred to Salvation Army and Lakeland Hospice. Online condolences may be sent to www.olsonfuneralhome.com.
