Buc boys 1st, girls 3rd, at Maple River Invite

The Blue ?Earth Area cross country boys brought home first with 59 points and the girls team placed third with 64 points in last Thursday’s Maple River Invite.

Though conditions were humid and rainy, it did not stop the Bucs from giving their all.

The boys team placed five members in the top 20 to grab the team title for the meet. The boys varsity team had two members place in the top ten. Grant Strukel received 5th with 19:12 while Zach Vaske was right behind in 6th with 19:28.

Boys varsity 5000-meters: Brady Olsen, 12th, 20:15; Alan Davids, 16th, 20:51; Adam Buseman, 20th, 21:01; Seth Becker, 34th, 22:10; Gunnar Fering, 44th, 23:08.

Boys junior varsity 5000-meters: Jacob Dikken, 7th, 23:44; Blake Townsend, 26th, 31:05; Eric Becker, 28th, 31:38.

The girls teams also made great efforts to place well in the meet. Varsity player Mariah Halvorson placed 9th with a time of 24:00, while junior varsity member Amanda Jacobson placed first in the JV run with a time of 28:06.

“This was the best team race for the girls this year,” said head coach Tom Plocker.

Girls varsity 5000-meters: Marissa Waddell, 11th, 24:41; Melissa Hagedorn, 15th, 25:42; Shayna Stevermer, 21st, 26:20; Taylor Grandgenett, 23rd, 26:30; Callie Stevermer, 29th; 27:16; Emma Germain, 34th, 28:26.

Girls junior varsity 5000 meters: Arianna Nagel, 2nd, 28:24; Gabby Weerts, 3rd, 28:54; Hayley Jahnke, 9th, 37:34.

The Bucs cross country’s next meet will be held Sept. 24 at 4:30 p.m. at Jackson County Central High School.
