BEA cross country team runs at WEM meet

With practically perfect conditions at the Prairie Ridge Golf Club in Janesville, the Blue Earth Area Buccaneer cross country team really pushed to bring their all.

The Buccaneer girls team were able to come in fifth place as a team with 94 points. Neighbors to the east, United South Central, earned fourth place with 87 points, while Maple River garnered third place with 69 points. Waterville-Elysian-Morristown/Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton were able to earn second place with 68 points while Martin County West took home first as a team with 66.

"A pretty solid outing for the Buc women today," said head coach Tom Plocker.

Kaitlin Johnson worked hard at gradually moving up throughout the race to crack a top 10 placing, earning ninth with a time of 23:04.

Other Results:

Girls Varsity- 5000 meters: Callie Stevermer (24:06), Melissa Hagedorn (24:25), Arianna Nagel (25:45), Gabby Weerts (27:10), Emma Germain (29:39), Amanda Jacobson (32:32).

Girls JH- 2500 meters: Elizabeth Jacobson (13:17), Aubrey Hueper (20:14).

Boys Results:

The BEA boys team were competitive on the new course, but it just was not enough to get placed in the top five. The Buc boys earned sixth place with 115 points, losing fifth place by one point to WEM/JWP who had 114 points. Maple River earned fourth place with 110 points, while USC earned 88 points for third. Blooming Prairie's boys team took second for the meet with 77 points, while MCW took first with 32.

However, it was the unstoppable Grant Strukel that placed first individually at the meet with a time of 17:46.

"Grant paced himself smartly then pulled away from some stalwart competitors to post his third individual win of the year," said Plocker.

Boys Varsity- 5000 meters: Brady Olsen (19:54), Jacob Dikken (21:03), Gunnar Fering (22:30), Eric Becker (22:56), Blake Townsend (23:37), Cameron Germain (23:40), James Greer (32:52).

Boys JH- 2500 meters: Angel Martinez (10:33), Alex Dikken (11:39), Shane Levenhagen (12:50), Carson Strukel (13:26).

Milaca Mega-Meet

On Saturday, Sept. 23, the Blue Earth Area Cross Country team headed to the Stone's Throw Golf Course in Milaca for the Milaca Mega-Meet.

Head coach Tom Plocker stated the conditions at the meet were hot and sticky, but the Bucs did their best to bring home some personal records.

Girls Results:

"There were some nice efforts by the ladies in today's meet, their second in three days under oppressive conditions," said Plocker.

Girls 5000 meters: Callie Stevermer (75th, 24:05), Melissa Hagedorn (91st, 24:26), Arianna Nagel (136th, 25:43), Emma Germain (158th, 26:29), Gabby Weerts (210th, 29:36), Amanda Jacobson (225th, 31:13).

Girls JH- 3200 meters: Elizabeth Jacobson (219th, 18:43).

Boys Results:

"The fellas fought through the high dew points as well. Grant Strukel garnered his third straight Milaca trophy by going out real hard, fighting through the second mile and finishing faster than last year."

Boys 5000 meters: Grant Strukel (5th, 17:36), Gunnar Fering (246th, 23:32), Cameron Germain (262nd, 23:35).

Boys 3200 meters: Angel Martinez (107th, 14:11), Shane Levenhagen (262nd, 17:14), Carson Strukel (266th, 17:16).
