Doyle R. Koestler, 84

Wells Doyle R. Koestler, age 84, of Wells, passed away peacefully at his home in Wells, on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017. A funeral service was held on Monday, Oct. 23, 2017 at United Lutheran Church, Walters, Pastor Don Rose officiated. Interment was in Rice Lake Cemetery, Foster Township, Faribault County. Doyle Reinhold was born April 24, 1933 the son of Reinhold and Esther (Sanders) Koestler outside of Titonka, Iowa in Portland Township. He was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in Burt, Iowa and confirmed at Dell Lutheran Church, rural Frost. He graduated from Frost High School in 1951, and entered the United States Army at Fort Lewis in Washington, returning home in 1953.

He married Carrie Henderson on April 28, 1956 in Frost. In 1961, they moved to their farm near Rice Lake where they worked and lived for 40 years. Doyle served many years on the Kiester-Walters school board, Foster Township board and United Lutheran Church council. Along with his love for watching all Minnesota sports teams, one of Doyle's greatest passions was playing golf. Hole #8 at Freeborn's Oak View was his good luck gem where he had two hole-in-ones.

Doyle's greatest love was always for his family. He is survived by his wife, Carrie of Wells; five children, Dale (Cheryl) Koestler of Wells, James (Gretchen) Koestler of Inver Grove Heights, Deanne (Tony) Trussell of Kiester, Robert (Katie) Koestler of Fennimore, Wisconsin, Jonathan Koestler (Jon Young) of Atlanta, Georgia; 11 grandchildren, Shannon (Brad) Bodick, Danielle and Kate Koestler; Jake and Erin Koestler; Kyle Massey (special friend Kimber Kuhl) and Nicole (Josh) Gruhlke; Dillon, Ethan, Natalie and Logan Koestler; one great-grandchild: Chase Gruhlke; one sister, Pearl Swain of Kiester, and one brother, Lloyd Koestler of Blue Earth; as well as several nieces and nephews and their families.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Twylah Jensen and brother, Edwin Koestler, and one granddaughter, Lauren.

The family would like to express their thanks for the great care provided by hospice and healthcare of Mayo Clinic and for the visitor's that came to the home during his illness.
