BEA wipes out Wildcats on road

Blue Earth Area continued their winning ways last Thursday night as they defeated Heron Lake-Okabena, 72-22 on the road.

Caitlin Rorman led the way offensively for the Bucs as she ended the evening with 25 points and eight rebounds. Sofie Blair added eight points for the maroon and gold.

A total of 11 BEA players were able to get their names in the scoring column in the game. By halftime, the Buccaneers enjoyed a massive 40-14 advantage.

Blue Earth Area remained on the road for their next contest against Granada Huntley East Chain-Truman-Martin Luther on Friday, Feb. 16. Results from this game will be available in next week’s edition of the Faribault County Register.

BEA 55, USC 29

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers coasted to a 55-29 blowout win over United South Central at home on Monday, Feb. 12.

The Bucs set the tone early on in the ballgame with too much intensity on both ends of the floor for the Rebels to handle. BEA dominated in virtually every meaningful statistical category, racking up plenty of steals, rebounds, and assists.

When the first half was over with, Blue Earth Area enjoyed a comfortable 38-16 lead heading into the locker room.

For the game, the Buccaneers recorded 16 assists and managed to steal the ball a whopping 23 times in the contest. BEA’s pressure defense led to an astounding 32 turnovers by USC.

Blue Earth Area junior Caitlin Rorman led all scorers in the game with 17 points. Her hounding style of defense also resulted in four steals on the evening. Meanwhile, teammate and fellow junior Hannah Johnson added 11 points and also collected four steals of her own.

In the second half, Buccaneer head coach Al Cue found playing time for other role players on his bench. BEA’s Maddie Armon logged eight minutes, Kaitlin Johnson played seven minutes, and fan favorite Ta Armstrong played a total of 11 minutes.

BEA 46, St. James 26

Although this game was far more competitive than the last meeting between these two teams, Blue Earth Area still won by a comfortable margin.

The maroon and gold struggled to put the ball in the basket, shooting 29.4 percent for the game. However, BEA’s aggressive defense prevented St. James from capitalizing as the Saints shot an ice cold 20 percent from the field in the contest.

A total of 27 Saints turnovers led to 16 Bucs points at the other end of the floor. The Bucs also dominated in the post with 22 points in the paint compared to just six for St. James. BEA also benefited from good ball movement throughout the game, resulting in 13 assists for the Bucs.

Blue Earth Area’s top scorer Caitlin Rorman once again led the team in scoring with 19 points. She also filled the stat sheet in other areas, collecting eight rebounds, six steals, and two assists on the evening. Meanwhile Sofie Blair and Lindsey Norman each added seven points for the Buccaneers.

In 22 minutes of action, Norman was a defensive terror with three blocked shots and three steals against the Saints.
