Two Blue Earth Area girls volleyball players have been named to the Big South Conference East Division All-Conference awards lists.

Hannah Johnson, a senior outside hitter, was named to the All Conference list, while teammate Alyssa Ripley, also a senior middle hitter, was on the Honorable Mention list.

Johnson's stats were very impressive this season and she was a leader in several categories this year.

Hannah Johnson, above, goes high for a kill attempt during the season. She was named to the BSC All-conference list.

She ended up with 186 kills, 19 blocks, 189 digs, had 668 serve receives and 13 service aces.

Johnson was good on both offense and defense, Buc head coach Donna Nawrocki says.

"Hannah developed into a great team leader on our court," Nawrocki says. "With her athletic ability, Hannah was an offensive work horse for out team. She took 43 percent of our serve receive to get our offense rolling, and used her quick arm swing to be our leading attacker."

The Bucs' coach says Johnson also did a nice job defensively, and her 189 digs led the team.

Ripley was also a tremendous asset for the Buccaneers this year.

"Alyssa made the adjustment from right side hitter to middle hitter with ease," the Buc mentor says. "Her net play was strong both offensively and defensively. She was the team's leading blocker."

Ripley had 51 blocks during the season, to go along with her 11 kills, 71 digs and 16 service aces.

"Alyssa was a great team player," Nawrocki adds. "Her personality and understanding of the game was definitely a plus to all those around her."

As a team, BEA ended up in fifth place in the East Division of the BSC with a 2-8 conference record.

St. Peter won the East Division with a 9-0 record while Marshall won the West Division with a 6-0 record. Marshall defeated St. Peter 3-0 to take the 2018 BSC championship.
