The search for a new Blue Earth Area superintendent has been narrowed down to two candidates.

Mandy Fletcher and David Pace are the two finalists named by the School Board at their meeting on Wednesday night, March 16.

Fletcher currently serves as the superintendent/principal at Granada-Huntley-East Chain, a position she has held since 2017. She is a graduate of Blue Earth Area High School.

Pace, a native of Madelia, is the superintendent at Greenway Public Schools. The communities included in the Greenway School District include LaPrairie, Coleraine, Bovey, Taconite, Marble, Calumet and Pengilly.

Each candidate will return to Blue Earth for a community interview and a final interview by the Board.

The community interview for Fletcher will be Wednesday, March 20. It will begin at 4 p.m. and be held at the Performing Arts Center located at the high school. Her interview with the board will begin at 6:15 p.m.

It will be the same schedule for Pace on Thursday, March 21, starting with the community interview in the PAC at 4 p.m. The School Board will conduct their interview at 6:15. Following the interview, the board will meet, with the possibility of offering a contract to one of the two finalists.

The search process began in January with the board voting to retain the South Central Service Cooperative (SCSC) as their search consultant.

During the time period of Jan. 15 through Feb. 28, SCSC advertised the opening, recruited and accepted applications for the superintendent's position.

Interviews with community members and BEA staff were also conducted to build a profile of traits desired in the future superintendent.

SCSC received 17 applications for the job opening, 15 of the applicants were male and two were female. Nine of the applicants had superintendent experience.

A further breakdown showed 12 applicants had experience in Minnesota, one in Wisconsin, one in South Dakota, two in North Dakota and one had experience in Brazil.

SCSC recommended four candidates for the first round of interviews, which were held on March 16. It was from these interviews that Fletcher and Pace emerged as the leading candidates.
