May 13, 2019

The regular meeting of the Board of Education of the Blue Earth Area, I.S.D. #2860 was held on Monday, May 13, 2019, in Blue Earth, MN.

Present were School Board members: F. Bly, S. Hauskins, S. Beyer, S. Benz, S. Rosenau, and K. Zierke. Also attending were Supt. Jerry Jensen, principals, members of the press, staff, and public.

The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Susan Benz at 5:30 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

The agenda was approved on a Bly/Zierke motion. 6-0 vote.

Public input was given by Mary Kennedy regarding the Community & Economic Development Associates.

The board approved the minutes from April 8th, April 15th, and April 29th on a Hauskins/Beyer motion. 6-0 vote.

A motion was made by Member Hauskins and seconded by Member Beyer to approve payment of bills and wire transfers totaling $1,172,670.33. Approved 6-0 vote.

Hannah Brower reported on the Communications Class Projects.

Chairperson's Report: none.

Superintendent's Report: End of year dates, Legislative update

Committee Reports:

S. Hauskins reported on the BEA Foundation Amazon Smile .5%.

S. Rosenau reported on Community Ed.

S. Benz reported on the DLT Committee Prof Dev subcommittee discussed plans for final work days of this year, started planning for 19-20. Communications subcommittee working on ideas for the fall BEA Briefings, still working on adding community members to DLT. Mentoring subcommittee is looking at end of year feedback and checklists for next year. Grant subcommittee approved 10 Prof Dev grant requests, will be working this summer on changes to the grant request application. Tech reported that the Summer BE A Learner signup was sent out and there has been a great response, ongoing working on digital safety, gathering input on usage of digital resources.

Ona Bly/Zierke motion, the Board approved the Southern Plains Education Cooperative Amended Contract for Speech Language Pathologist Substitute. 6-0.

On a Bly/Rosenau motion, the Board approved the Resolution Authorizing the Approval of the Sale of General Obligation Refunding Bonds Series 2019A. The following vote in favor of: F. Bly, S. Rosenau, S. Benz, S. Hauskins, S. Beyer, K. Zierke. Those voting against: none.

On a Rosenau/Benz motion, the Board approved the Resolution Placing a Teacher on Unrequested Leave. The following vote in favor of: F. Bly, S. Rosenau, S. Benz, S. Hauskins, S. Beyer, K. Zierke. Those voting against: none.

On a Bly/Beyer motion, the Board approved the 2019-20 Capital Expenditure Budget. 6-0 vote.

On a Bly/Zierke motion, the Board approved the Community Education Staff Wages/Salaries for 2019-2020. 6-0 vote.

On a Bly/Beyer motion, the Board approved the hiring of Brent Vereide and approved the resignations of Holly Hoerth, Little Giants/SAC Teacher, Ingrid Chrisman, High School English, and Lindsay Johnson, Elementary Teacher. 6-0 vote.

On a Hauskins/Beyer motion, the Board approved Policies 601, 602, 603, 604, 606, 611, 612.1, 613, 614, 615, 616, 618, 619, 620, 623, 624, and 721. 6-0 vote.

On a Zierke/Hauskins motion, the meeting was adjourned at 6:44 p.m.

A special meeting of the Board of Education of Blue Earth Area, I.S.D. #2860 was held on Tuesday June 4, 2019 in Blue Earth, MN.

Present members were S. Benz, S. Beyer, F. Bly, S. Haskins, S. Rosenau and K. Zierke. Also present were Supt. Jensen and members of the press and staff.

The meeting was called to order at 7 a.m. by Chair Susan Benz.

On a Bly/Beyer motion, the board accepted the resignation effective June 30, 2019 of Melissa McGuire, K-7 Principal. The board thanked Ms. McGuire for her 16 years of service to the district. Approved 6-0.

On a Beyer/Bly motion, the board approved to offer Dave Dressler the K-7 principal position at a rate of $98,000 pending approval of the association. 6-0.

On a Hauskins/Bly motion the board approved to hire a licensed assistant principal. 6-0.

A motion to adjourn was made by Member Hauskins and approved by Member Beyer. Approved 6-0.

The Blue Earth Planning Commission has scheduled a hearing at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 in the Council Chambers of City Hall to consider the following request of Steven & Gennie Gesche, 316 W 6th Street, Blue Earth, MN.
