The Blue Earth Pirates won both ends of a double- header against the Lake Crystal Lakers on Sunday, July 14, at Veterans Field in Blue Earth.

The Pirates outscored the Lakers 15-2 in the opening game. An eight-run first inning proved to be more than enough run support for Lee Hodges, who pitched five innings of shut-out ball to get credit for the win. Kane Malo relieved Hodges in the sixth inning and surrendered two runs in the seventh inning. The game was shortened to seven innings because of the Pirates 10-run lead.

Blue Earth pounded out 12 hits against the Lakers. TJ Schmidtke and John Franta each had 2 RBIs in the first inning. Logan Jahnke added two more RBIs in the third inning. Hodges was 2-for-2 and had a double.
