BEA cross country hosts BEA Invite

Elizabeth Jacobson, pictured and Grant Strukel, second photo, were the lead runners for the BEA Buc Invite last Tuesday. Both seniors have had very successful seasons so far, making progress at every meet this season.

The Buc Invite was held last Tuesday, Oct. 8, and the Bucs worked hard for the home team.

In the boys division, Grant Strukel was able to place in the top 10 with a solid time of 17:41, while teammate Angel Martinez came in 23rd with a time of 19:55.

Cameron Germain ran hard out of the gate and kept his momentum, placing 26th with a time of 20:09.

Carson Strukel pushed himself as well, finishing in 20:23 for 27th place, while teammate Nate Phippen was just behind him, earning 32nd with a time of 23:09.

Damion Mahlstedt hit the ground running at 23:49 and taking 33rd place while Nick Blum’s time of 24:08 and 34th place finished the Buccaneer varsity run.

Aiden Stitner and James Greer both ran the Riverside Town & Country Club course bravely. Stitner ran a time of 24:48, placing 35th, while Greer was right behind him placing 36th with a time of 25:02.

As for the girls varsity race, Elizabeth Jacobson was the Buccaneer leader for the girls. She placed 18th with a time of 27:37. Leah Becker was right behind Jacobson in the race as she took 19th with a time of 28:43, and behind Becker, placing 20th for the day was Addison Smith with a run time of 29:28.

Autumn Gordon crossed the finish line in 21st place with a time of 29:47, while Sara Hernandez dashed across the finish line with a time of 30:35, placing 22nd.

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers are preparing to compete in the Big South Conference Meet at Mountain Lake Golf Course at 4 p.m., on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

I-90 Invitational

On Thursday, Oct. 3, the Blue Earth Area Buccaneers wandered into Cardinal territory to compete in the I-90 Invite at Cedar Creek Park.

The Buc boys totalled 222 points. Though they were unable to place in the top five teams for the meet, it did not stop their tenacity to run and run hard.

Varsity runner Grant Strukel led the pack with his fastest 5K of the season in his final tour of the I-90 course, placing 15th with a 17:18 time.

Teammate Angel Martinez crushed his old personal record on the Cedar Creek track by zipping over the course in 19:15, placing 58th, while Carson Strukel uncorked another best mark clocking his run at 20:15 for 76th place.

Racing Cameron Germain covered the terrain in a season-best 20:42 and came in 90th overall. Head coach Tom Plocker shares Germain moved up 14 places from his race at the I-90 Invite in 2018.

Damion Mahlstedt clocked a 22:13 5K, placing 117th in his I-90 debut, while teammate Nate Phippen surged to his best time of the season, nabbing 127th place in 22:52, moving up 12 spots from last year.

Nick Blum took to the course well. His first experience at Cedar Creek, as he pushed to his best-ever time of 23:23, good for 134th place.

James Greer sped to his first-ever sub-25-minute 5K clocking, earning a time of 24:24, while Shane Levenhagen PR’ed by over a minute, cruising to a time of 25:54.

Lastly, Eli Paz claimed 156th at the race with a time of 29:08, his first 5K at Cedar Creek.

For the Buc varsity girls, Elizabeth Jacobson hit the jackpot at the meet, according to her coach. The sophomore upped her PR by more than a minute, racing with a time of 26:33, placing 86th, an improvement of 15 places from 2018. Teammate Sara Hernandez strode to a sizzling 28:57, with a 96th placing overall.

For the 1,600 meter junior high boys races, Aiden Stiltner timed in at 6:52, placing 51st, while Max Peterson completed his first cross country mile, earning 62nd place with a time of 7:16. Hayden Vereide shaved 70 seconds from his previous mile race at the I-90, clocking a time of 7:32 for 69th place.

As for the junior high girls, Autumn Gordon led the Bucs to a ribbon-winning 17th place, timing her first mile in cross country at 7:12.

Leah Becker also earned a ribbon by finishing 26th with a time of 7:39.

Addison Smith clipped around the course in 8:22, earning 38th overall, while teammate Clarine Greer finished strongly to capture 41st with a time of 9:49. Reagan Bromeland had a quality race, covering the 1,600 meters in 9:52.
