BEA wrestlers go 2-1 at quad meet

Bucs defeat TCU and St. Peter, fall to state ranked Scott West

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer wrestling team traveled to St. Peter last Tuesday night for a quadrangular meet. The quad meet had been rescheduled from Jan. 17 due to weather.

Tuesday the Bucs went 2-1 at the meet.

They lost 48-10 to Scott West, but defeated host St. Peter 40-26, and were victorious over Tri-City United, 40-30.

The referee keeps a close eye on the action as BEA’s Ty Pederson works for a pin at 120 pounds during a recent match. Pederson went 2-1 at the recent quadrangular meet in St. Peter. As a team, the Bucs also went 2-1 at the meet held last week Tuesday.

BEA 40, TCU 30

It was Tri-City United getting on the board first with BEA's Caleb Langager losing 8-4 at 106 pounds. But, Ty Peterson came right back with 14-2 major decision at 113 to give the Bucs the lead.

Carson Sturtz lost by a fall at 120 pounds, but BEA won the next three matches. Davis Sunken took a 19-3 technical fall at 126 pounds, as did Jacob Beeler at 132, with a 16-1 score and Caleb Beeler won by forfeit.

Jaxen Klinkner lost by a fall at 145 pounds and Adam Schavey fell 6-4 at 152.

Koby Nagel also notched a technical fall (17-2) at 160 pounds and Max Ehrich won 10-3 at 170.

Kean Hicks lost by a fall at 182 pounds, but Nick Frank won by a fall at 195.

Nick Lawrence lost by a fall at 220 pounds, but Ian Cornelio won by a fall at 285.

BEA 40, St. Peter 26

The Bucs defeated the St. Peter Saints by a similar score they had against the Tri-City United Titans.

The Saints scored first when BEA's Caleb Langager lost by a 9-1 major decision at 106 pounds.

BEA won the next three matches. Carson Sturtz took a 12-7 win at 120 pounds, Ty Peterson got a pin at 120 and Davis Sunken took an 11-2 major decision at 126.

At 132 pounds Jacob Beeler lost a 9-4 decision, but at 138 Caleb Beeler won by a 6-1 score.

BEA's Jaxen Klinkner lost a 13-1 major decision at 145 pounds, and Koby Nagel fell by a close 3-1 score at 152.

The next six matches all ended in six points for one team or the other, as they were all pins or forfeits.

Max Ehrich won by a fall at 160 pounds, Kean Hicks lost by a fall at 170, Cole Warmka lost by a fall at 182, Nick Frank won by a fall at 195, Luke Mertens won by forfeit at 220 and Ian Cornelio also won by forfeit at 285.

Scott West 48, BEA 10

The Buccaneers had a lot of trouble with the Panthers of Scott West.

A cooperative of three schools, Jordan, Belle Plaine and Holy Family, Scott West is ranked at ninth in state in Class AA. The Bucs are ranked at No. 6 in Class A.

The Panthers got off to a big start with BEA's Caleb Langager losing a major decision 11-1 at 106 pounds, Ty Peterson also losing at 113 by a 10-2 major decision and Angel Martinez losing by a fall at 120 pounds.

BEA's Davis Sunken finally got the Bucs on the board with a 9-0 major decision at 126 pounds.

Jacob Beeler lost a close 3-2 match at 132 pounds, and Caleb Beeler lost a 12-1 major decision at 138.

Jaxen Klinkner had a rare loss at 145 pounds by a 9-3 decision. Koby Nagel also had a rare loss by a fall at 152. The same was also true of Max Ehrich, who lost an 8-2 decision at 160. All three Bucs are ranked at No. 5 in state Class A in their weight class.

Kean Hicks lost by a fall at 170 pounds and Luke Mertens lost by a 7-3 score at 195.

Nick Frank got three points for the Bucs with a 3-2 decision at 182 pounds. At 220 pounds, Nick Lawrence also got three team points for BEA with a 4-0 win.

At 285 pounds, BEA's Ian Cornelio was pinned, making the final score 48-10.
