Wrestlers receive academic recognition

A total of six athletes from BEA and USC are honored by The Guillotine

The 2020 edition of The Guillotine Academic All-State Wrestling honorees was released last week.

Five Blue Earth Area wrestlers and one United South Central wrestler were included on the list.

Junior Max Ehrich of BEA was named to the second team at 160 pounds. He had a 3.91 GPA (Grade Point Average). Ehrich compiled a 33-3 record on the mat this year and finished fourth at the State Tournament.

Ty Peterson at 113 pounds and Caleb Beeler at 132 pounds qualified as members of the third team. Peterson, a junior, had a 3.84 GPA and a 36-11 record. Beeler, a senior, had a 3.78 GPA and a 30-15 record. Both Peterson and Beeler qualified for the State Tournament this past season.

Named as honorable mention were junior Nick Frank and senior Koby Nagel. Frank, who wrestled at 182 pounds, had a 3.58 GPA and wrestled his way to a 36-10 record. Nagel, a 145 pounder, had a 3.13 GPA and qualified for the State Tournament while finishing the season with a record of 24-10.

Senior Jacob Billings of USC received honorable mention with a GPA of 3.49. The 182 pounder had a 28-12 record in his last season as a Rebel wrestler.

In total, 123 wrestlers were recognized for their accomplishments on the mat and in the classroom. Thirty wrestlers were named to first team, 30 to the second team, 30 to the third team and 33 wrestlers received honorable mention honors.

Points are based on current varsity wins, current State Tournament placement and cumulative high school GPA.
