A total of eight Blue Earth Area track and field athletes have been named Academic All-State for 2020.

Due to the cancellation of the 2020 season, the Minnesota State High School Coaches' Association chose to recognize athletes based on their current cumulative grade point average (GPA) and their performances from the 2019 season.

The BEA athletes being honored are Heidi Herrmann, Thomas Lindsey, Brady Olsen, Grant Strukel, Ta Armstrong, Lauren Bleess, Eloise Blair and Sophie Keister.

Four of the athletes named to the team were seniors who missed out on their final year of competition. Herrmann and Lindsey both competed in the pole vault. Brady Olsen did the high jump and was a member of the 4 x 400 meter relay team and Grant Strukel competed in the 3200 meter run.

Armstrong was the lone junior named to the squad. She was a member of the 4 x 200 meter relay team.

The Bucs also had one sophomore on the team. Lauren Bleess performed in the 300 low hurdles and the 4 x 200 relay team.

Freshmen Blair and Keister rounded out the squad. Blair competed in both the 100 meter high hurdles and the 300 meter low hurdles. Keister qualified in the high jump.

In order to be eligible for the honor, the student-athletes had to be in grades 9-12, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.6 and meet at least one of the following track and field criteria:

Earn All-Conference honors.

Qualify for the individual Minnesota State Meet.

Meet at least one of the standards on the website raceberryjam.com. This is a site for reporting outstanding performances in Minnesota.

The individuals were not the only ones to garner post-season honors.

Both the boys and girls track teams achieved the Gold Level academically, which requires an average cumulative GPA of at least 3.75.

The BEA girls had a team GPA of 3.96. The boys finished with a GPA of 3.86.
